National College Decision Day

May 1st is a very important day in the world of matriculating high school seniors! This is the day young leaders decide where they want to begin their college and career journey called National College Decision Day! Here are our tips to help maximize the success of the college decision experience before and after the big day!

1. How Long is the College or University Acceptance Wait?

Each college and university upholds their own time frame for approving students to attend their establishment. These time frames will depend on how and when you completed the application process. Below are admission's terms and acceptance dates that may impact your decision date!

Early Action - Mid-December 2022 to Late January 2023

Early Decision - Mid to Late December 2022

Early Decision II - Mid to Late February 2023 Regular Decision - Mid-March 2023 to April 1, 2023

Rolling Admissions - Opens September and continues through spring with admissions decisions being made 4 to 6 weeks after applying.

2. Know Your College Admission Terminology!

To amplify your college admission's success plan familiarize yourself with the terms below!

Early Action - Applying to a college and university before regular decision. This is nonbinding, meaning, applicants can apply to multiple schools without being bound to a specific one.

Early Decision I and II - This is a binding agreement! Student's can only choose one college or university and must agree to attend if accepted.

Regular Decision - Students will have until December or January to submit college applications. Colleges and universities tend to not accept applicants after this date!

Rolling Admissions - There are no application deadlines.

3. Why is May 1st National College Decision Day?

Although students are allowed to apply to as many colleges and universities as they wish, they can only accept admission from one institution! Having a deadline of May 1st gives youth more time to make this critical decision, as well as negotiate any pending matters regarding their Student Aid Report (SAR). Once a decision is made, student's secure their spot via a deposit given directly to the college or university.

4. Can You Apply To College After May 1st, National College Decision Day?

We highly recommend deciding on your college or university before May 1st! Remember, each institution will have their own rules regarding deadlines and some will not break them for late decisions! The exception includes schools that have a rolling deadline for its applicants.

5. Use Your Judgement and Compare, Compare, Compare!

Your college and career journey is in your hands! Use your judgment when deciding on what is best for you! This includes thoroughly reviewing the Student Aid Report (SAR) before accepting any financial aid offer, as well as ensuring all pending questions are answered!
